What To Draw?

I found myself wondering that, just feeling like I wanted to practice but I had no clue what to use as a subject. And then I thought, "hey, isn't that the whole point of Everyday Matters?" So I went and pulled a prompt out of the much-disused container and sat down to draw.

Here's what I ended up with. I was originally going to pull the one out of the fridge, but I was glad to see we had an empty one in the recycling bin. With my luck, I would have bumped it and ended up with eggs all over the floor. 

In other news, I've finally figured out what I'm going to do for the Sketchbook Project. Still a lot of planning to go into it, but I've got the concept finalized at least. Four months to make it happen. I can do it!

So Much for That Plan

I originally intended to do a giveaway today, but my camera has decided to develop an attitude. It keeps telling me that the memory card is full in spite of the fact that that it is decidedly not. Giveaways are no fun without photos of the items to be won, so that's on hold for the moment. Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have resolved the camera issues.

In the meantime, I have started thinking about my contribution to the Sketchbook Project. I'm usually a "just dive in" type, but I also have never produced a themed body of work before. My journal's theme is "monochromatic," and I did some sketching with a couple of different colors and interpretations of it.

With red and yellow, I did one example using color plus grays and one with just the color.  Seeing the results helps me decide how I want to approach the theme, and although I'm not entirely decided yet, I am more excited now.

The Sketchbook Project 2012

I signed up recently for The Sketchbook Project. I've never participated before, but I figured I could use the push to try some new things or just improve what I normally do. Yesterday, my sketchbook arrived.

Now I have to figure out what I want to do with it. Should I re-bind it? I'm a total newbie at that. I could just start with new paper of the right size and go from there - binding it at the end. Or I could, of course, leave it as is aside from decorating the cover.

What to do depends on what media I intend to use inside. The sketchbook is similar to a Moleskine cahier but the paper is white and thicker. It would be fine with colored pencils, and probably fine with markers on only one side. How many pages am I going to end up doing between now and January, anyway?

It's a little overwhelming, and I feel like I need some sort of plan, but at the moment I don't have one. Have you participated in the Sketchbook Project in the past? What did you do with your sketchbook?
