When I pulled out this prompt, I gave some thought about what kind of eye I wanted to draw and started looking through my photographs. I could have pulled out a mirror and drawn my own eye, but that didn't seem very interesting to me. So I considered and discarded a number of possibilities until I happened upon a photograph from the zoo.
This drawing is a bit different in style from the sketches I usually do. I used 3 pencils and a blending stump. However, it's the same in a critical way - no eraser. One of the things I have decided to do when I work from the Everyday Matters prompts is to go eraser-free. They're meant to be sketches, no matter the style I draw them using. They aren't supposed to be perfect, or labored over, endlessly trying to make sure everything is just right. And that's what I tend to do when I have an eraser in hand. I understand the idea of "making it work" when I sketch in pen, because there's only so much you can do to fix mistakes then, but I want to work more on the same mindset when using pencil.
